The art of description

Ever wonder what the difference between publication companies are? I did too, until I worked for one. Books are so therapeutic, they are stories that take your mind away from the troubles of your life. While magazines, and news papers give you information regarding your lifestyle. Whether it be concerning your health, or the whether, they always are changing with up and coming news.

The art of storytelling, thats a job in itself. Writing down every thought within your mind over and over and over again until your brain feels like mush. The never ending re-reading in order to make a sentence sound just the way you’ve always imagined it. The ability to get your words down on paper with the most intense vocabulary ever that is so descriptive that you can actually taste that red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting your reading about. Some people are just born with a talent, i’m not one of them. The writing and re-writing, scribbling out and starting over are things that I have become very acquainted with.

Learning how to write is one of the hardest things i’ve learned. The ability to make absolutely nothing into the description of a cherry cheese pie, is a gift. Just being able to find words to describe that item without repeating yourself or using words like ‘delicious’, or ‘tasty’. No. Those are not words that can perfect the art of description. The way that magazines and web content online form their sentences in ways that you don’t even need to see the product, you’ve already envisioned it and its beautiful! Thats the art of storytelling. Of making something of no thought into the best piece of work in the entire world. The art of description.

Newspapers can even make the most horrific, god awful story about a mass murder, into something that intrigues its readers. They can put so much detail into those stories that its basically a science fiction book. Thats an incredible talent. To make something so absurd and inhumane into a mysterious story that intrigues everyone around. They can turn the ‘For Sale’ sections into a perfect description of that cherry red mustang with the dents on the right side into a description that will make you want that dented car, just because. Those are some serious magicians there.

All of this however, is something that i’ve noticed throughout my time interning at a magazine. How people can just sit in the desk with nothing around them, no noise, no talking, and just write the most descriptive pieces. Can you imagine just sitting In silence with only the intention to write? I can and its quiet.

  1. Wow, incredible weblog format! How long have you been running a blog for? you made running a blog look easy. The whole look of your web site is excellent, let alone the content material!

  2. You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I in finding this topic to be really something that I believe I would never understand. It seems too complex and very vast for me. I’m taking a look ahead for your subsequent put up, I’ll try to get the hold of it!
